A woman has been arrested and detained at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over yesterday’s discovery of hard currencies estimated at over N15billion found in a house at Ikoyi, Lagos.
“The woman is in our custody, but the name can’t be disclosed now because investigation is ongoing,” EFCC agents told Newsmakersng early today.
According to the EFCC sources, who debunked some names already being mentioned in the media, the suspect’s husband has also come forward to claim joint ownership of the money with his wife.
After counting the money all day yesterday, the EFCC issued a statement putting the final figure at $43.4million, £27.8million, and N23.2million.
The EFCC statement says the monies were found in a four-bedroom apartment on the 7th floor of a residential building at Osborne Towers, 16 Osborne Road, in Ikoyi.
Newsmakersng learnt that the woman was arrested as she was preparing to flee the country through Kaduna Airport.
