A man, identified as Chinasa Ogbaga, a native of Egwuagu Okpuitumo Community in the Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has allegedly butchered his two children and left a third one half-dead.

The suspects reportedly committed the act on Saturday night when villagers and other family members had gone to bed.

He allegedly took the children to the bush one after the other and slaughtered them.

The deceased are Chikamso Ogbaga, his six-year-old son, and Chizaram Ogbaga, his four-year-old daughter.

Emmanuel Ogbaga, his two-year-old son, also critically injured, has been taken to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he is receiving treatment.

NewsmakersNG gathered that the suspect, early February, divorced his wife, the mother of the three children.

The accused was seen in the evening of the day that he allegedly committed the crime sharpening his cutlass.

He was quoted to have said he was preparing the cutlass for frog hunting.

The crime was reportedly uncovered by a vigilance officer in the village who accosted him and questioned him for moving with a cutlass at night.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police by the villagers.

Police spokesman, Loveth Odah, said the case was under investigation.
