Another body fished out of the Lagos Lagoon today has been confirmed as that of Dr Allwell Orji, who allegedly plunged in on Sunday.

A mystery body that was found yesterday was rejected by the family that has accepted that of today.

The police told Newsmakersng that the body recovered today and that of yesterday were at the same level of decomposition, indicating that they must have landed in the lagoon at about the same time on Sunday.

Today’s recovery which was made at about 4pm however raised some questions about how many bodies could be there in the belly of the lagoon.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) confirmed that the body was recovered by the Marine Police, and identified by the family and Orji’s driver in the presence of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni.

Declaring the search closed, LASEMA’s General Manager, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu said he had met with the late doctor’s family members to express condolences on behalf of the Lagos State government.

The police said investigations would continue, even after the body has been handed over to the family.

Reports say the medical doctor had asked his driver to stop before jumping across the bridge into the water.

Until his death, Dr. Orji worked at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

He was allegedly on his way to Victoria Island for a meeting with members of the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria when the incident happened.

LASEMA said there was a distress call of a man who parked his grey coloured Nissan SUV at about 4:50 pm around Adekunle and jumped into the Lagos Lagoon.
