Marine officers searching for the remains of Dr Allwell Orji fished out a body with question marks from the Lagos Lagoon today.

The officers said they were unsure if the body recovered was that of the medical doctor who plunged into the lagoon on Sunday.

The observation forced police authorities to retract a statement earlier made today that the body of Dr. Orji who jumped into the lagoon on Sunday had been recovered.

According to Channels TV, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, had earlier claimed that Dr. Orji’s body was found by the Marine Police, at the Onikan end of the Lagoon.

Reports say the medical doctor had asked his driver to stop before jumping across the bridge into the water.

Until his alleged death, Dr. Orji worked at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Surulere, Lagos.

He was allegedly on his way to Victoria Island for a meeting with members of the Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria when the incident happened.

LASEMA said there was a distress call of a man who parked his grey coloured Nissan SUV at about 4:50 pm around Adekunle and jumped into the Lagos Lagoon.

The agency said that the vehicle and the driver were taken to Adeniji Adele Police Station for further investigation.
