Doyin Okupe Resigns as Labour Party Presidential Campaign DG

Pat Stevens/

As exclusively reported by NewsmakersNG, Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP PCC), Dr. Doyin Okupe, has resigned.

Okupe’s resignation followed his conviction by an Abuja Hugh Court for money laundering yesterday.

He was convicted for laundering N240 million and sent to two years imprisonment.

He was however given an option of N13 million fine, with a deadline to pay by 4.30pm same day. He met the deadline.

Announcing his decision to quit the LP PCC, today, Okupe said he will remain with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 polls.

In a statement on his Twitter handle, Okupe said, “It’s time to step aside.

“But I am with PO and the Obidients and the Presidential Campaigns till God gives us victory in Jesus Name.”

Okupe’s resignation letter.

Party sources also told NewsmakersNG yesterday that Okupe will most likely be replaced by Isaac Balami, the deputy manager of the Obi-Datti Campaign.
