Professor Olugbenga Ben Ogunmoyela, a pioneer Professor of Food Science and Technology at Bells University of Technology, has shared a terrifying experience after waking up to a nightmare on February 25, when he lodged at Temperance Guest House in Ota, Ogun State.

Whatever high-rating Prof Ogunmoyela might have had for Temperance Guest House owned by former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who has handed it over to Bells University, nose-dived after his room was allegedly burgled while he was fast asleep between 1 a.m and 4 a.m.

According to the Don, some intruders broke in through the window of his hotel room and stripped him of several belongings including his 24-carat gold wedding ring, eye-glasses, Laptop, iPhone and Huawei handsets, Cheque book, ID cards, wristwatch, iPad, shoes and other valuables.

“I was asleep when the room was burgled,” he said. “They could have killed me. I found that none of the Guest House Staff was around, especially the security staff who were fast asleep in their gate house. I drew the attention of the hotel manager to the raid and also reported the matter to the police. I later learnt that many guests have had similar experiences in the past.

“Up till now, no trace of any of the items, especially my laptop which is my office, library and all.

“The Manager’s irritating response was that the police have cleared his staff and that the valuables were not declared at check-in and so they are not liable. “

NewsmakersNG learnt that Temperance Guest House is being managed by MasterClass Hospitality Consulting.

Prof Ogunmoyela was, however, not pleased with the response of the hotel manager and the speedy release of arrested suspects who the police said they searched their homes and found no stolen item.

For record and official purposes, Prof Ogunmoyela has obtained a sworn affidavit for the lost items at the Lagos High Court, in Ikeja.
