Domestic Staff in Police Net after Murder of Employers on Second Day at Work

The police in Lagos have told how a domestic staff killed his employers less than 24 hours of his engagement.

According to a statement from the Lagos State police spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, the suspect identified as 22-year-old Joseph Ogbu moved into the home of his employers at 4, Ogunlana Drive in Surulere on June 18, 2019, and he allegedly killed his boss and her mother on June 19, 2019.

The victims were identified as 38-year-old Oreoluwa and her 89-year-old mother, Adejoke John.

Officers at Surulere Police Station received a report of the murder in the early hours of today.

The police told NewsmakersNG that Ogbu, who hails from Oju Local Government Area of Benue State had confessed to the crime.

Elkana stated: “In his statement, he averred that his employer asked him to clean the house at about 9 pm of 19th June 2019 but an argument ensued between them, which prompted him to stab her with a knife. That the shock of her death made her aged Mother slump and died. Considering the fact that they are dead, he moved some valuable Properties such as electronics, handsets and household items into the employer’s Toyota Camry Salon Car and attempted to escape to where he cannot be found before he was apprehended by policemen on patrol at Ogunlana pin-down point.

“The vehicle and items stolen were recovered. The crime scene was sealed off and corpses of the two victims were taken to Mainland hospital Yaba for autopsy. The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu mni has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba to take over the investigation and charge the suspect to Court.”
