Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on yesterday joined family members, retired senior police officers, friends and associates to commemorate the 70th posthumous birthday of former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, CFR, NPM (Rtd.), in recognition of his enduring contributions to policing and national development.

The event, attended by the IGP alongside his wife, Mrs. Olufumilola Mutiat Disu, served as a solemn but celebratory gathering in honour of the late police chief whose leadership left a lasting imprint on the Nigeria Police Force.

Among distinguished guests at the remembrance were retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Jonathan Towuru; former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni (Rtd.); CP Bolo Etete; as well as members of the Arase family, close associates and other notable personalities.

Speakers and attendees reflected on Arase’s remarkable career in the Nigeria Police Force, highlighting his commitment to professionalism, institutional reforms, intelligence-led policing and improved public confidence in law enforcement.

The gathering also provided an opportunity to celebrate the late former Inspector-General’s legacy as a respected statesman and reform advocate whose contributions continue to influence policing policies and institutional development in Nigeria.

Participants described the occasion as a fitting tribute to a distinguished officer whose decades of service to the nation remain a source of inspiration to serving and retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The late IGP Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police and later chaired the Police Service Commission, is widely remembered for championing reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism, accountability and community-oriented policing across the country.
