A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Parry Osayande, has passed away in Benin City.
He died early today, just a day before his 89th birthday.
His death was confirmed in a condolence statement issued by the President of the Immaculate Conception College Old Boys’ Association (ICCOBA) Worldwide, Engr. Ighodalo Edetanlen, on behalf of the association’s national executive.
The statement referred to Osayande as “an exemplary old boy” and noted that he would have turned 89 on September 29, 2025.
Osayande died 28 days after the passage of his Edo State kinsman, EX-IGP Solomon Arase, who also served as PSC Chairman.
“Born September 29, 1936, DIG Parry Osayande was to clock 89 on the 29th of September, 2025,” the statement said.
“He served the Nigeria Police Force in several capacities including being the Commissioner of Police in Benue, Cross River States and Chairman, Police Service Commission among others. While we mourn, let us also uphold the family he left behind in prayers in this moment of grief.
“Burial details will be made known when received. May God grant him and all the faithful departed eternal rest in Jesus Name, Amen. Semper et Ubique Fidelis.”
Osayande’s policing career stretched across several decades and included senior roles within the Force.
According to available records, he served as Commissioner of Police in Benue, old Bendel, and Cross River states.
In 1990, he was appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Force Operations, and later, in 1992, served as DIG in charge of the Force Intelligence and Investigation Bureau in Lagos.
Osayande is also credited with contributing to security operations such as managing unrest in Bauchi and Kano during his tenure as DIG.
In the mid-2000s, after retirement, he was appointed chairman of the Police Service Commission where he served until 2013.
