Diamond Bank Staff Commits Suicide Months after Tweeting his Recovery from Depression

A branch manager with Diamond Bank, Tolulope Abodunrin, has died of apparent suicide, nearly three months after writing about his battle with depression and suicidal inclinations on Twitter.

According to his Facebook profile, the University of Ilorin Accounting graduate had worked as Relationship Manager at First Bank and Access Bank and later as Managing Director, Stabod Intercontinental Limited before joining Diamond Bank in August as a branch manager.

His intro on his Facebook profile reads: “Branch manager @ Diamond Bank Plc, financial analyst, astute banker, powered by God, life is beautiful!”

It is not clear whether he was married or not.

According to his friends, he eventually took his own life on Wednesday, November 21.

A Twitter user, Dr Dipo, wrote that the deceased donated in support of an entrepreneurship Master class he organised in Ibadan on November 18. He also attended and bought motivational books for some of the participants.

Tweeting on the handle, #OgbeniDipo, he wrote: “Tolulope donated towards the masterclass in Ibadan. I understand he also bought some of Akin Alabi’s book for folks that attended. May God accept his soul and give him rest.”

The 2006 Accounting graduate of the University of Ilorin tweeted on August 30 that he used to google about the fastest ways to commit suicide.

He also promised to write about surviving the depression and suicidal thoughts.

He described the founder of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo as his role model and shared several of the cleric’s teachings on his timeline.
