Policemen have been drafted to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State after protesting supporters of the All Progressives Congress barred the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, from entering his office this morning.
The aggrieved APC supporters are protesting the court judgment barring their members from taking part in the governorship and state assembly elections.
While chanting various solidarity songs, they insisted that INEC must comply with a stay of execution order given by the Supreme Court on the disqualification of the APC candidates by a High Court.
The protesters had earlier barricaded the entrance to the INEC office, preventing the staff from getting in.
The convoy of the REC was also forced to turn back after he was denied access by the protesters.
The policemen cordoned off the INEC headquarters and also blocked access to the road leading to it, before dispersing the prostesters.
