Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspected criminals and recovered a locally made revolver pistol as well as 10 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in separate operations across the state.

The arrests, carried out by police operatives in Asaba and along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway, formed part of ongoing efforts by the Command to tackle crime, illegal arms possession, and drug trafficking.

In the first operation, a surveillance team attached to the Asaba Area Command intercepted three suspects identified as Musa Sule, 22, Moses Sunday, 26, and Osama Ibrahim, 25, during a routine patrol behind the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) premises in Asaba at about 5:30 a.m. on May 30.

Police said the suspects were stopped and searched based on reasonable suspicion, leading to the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons.

The three suspects were immediately arrested, while the recovered exhibits were taken into police custody. Investigations into the case are ongoing.

In a separate operation conducted on May 29 at about 4:00 a.m., operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon marked BEN 982 TE during an intelligence-led stop-and-search exercise along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway.
The vehicle was occupied by two suspects, identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, popularly known as “Big Joe.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which had been carefully concealed inside the car.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected drugs were allegedly being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were intercepted by the police.

The suspects have been taken into custody, while the exhibits have been secured as evidence pending further investigation.

Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to uncover the wider criminal network behind the illicit drug shipment and identify other accomplices linked to the operation.

Commending the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime across the state.
He warned individuals involved in illegal possession of firearms, drug trafficking, cultism, and other criminal activities to desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

The police boss also assured residents that the Command would continue to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at ensuring the safety and security of lives and property throughout Delta State.
