The police in Delta State have arrested members of a suspected fraud syndicate allegedly involved in duping unsuspecting victims with counterfeit United States dollar bills, while also apprehending two women linked to illicit drug trafficking in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The police said the operations, carried out on June 9, 2026, led to the recovery of 1,600 counterfeit dollar notes, military camouflage and large quantities of suspected hard drugs.
According to a statement issued today by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit trailed a five-man gang allegedly operating in a red, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.
Edafe said the suspects specialised in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with fake US dollar bills.
He identified the arrested suspects as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma and John Egwuba.
The suspects were reportedly arrested along Nnebisi Road in Asaba following credible intelligence and surveillance mounted by the operatives.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout in Asaba,” the statement said.
Police operatives subsequently stormed the hideout, where they recovered 1,600 counterfeit US dollar notes and military camouflage concealed within the premises.
The command said investigations were ongoing to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and track down other fleeing members.
In a separate operation on the same day, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested two suspected female drug dealers during a raid on Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were allegedly found in possession of large quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis and Canadian Loud.
The police said the suspects were actively involved in the distribution of prohibited substances within the area.
Recovered exhibits were taken into custody alongside the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network.
Commending the operatives for what he described as professionalism and diligence, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving public safety across the state.
