A Delta man has allegedly killed a relative during a heated argument over just N1,000, police have confirmed.
The shocking incident, recounted by SP Bright Edafe in a video on X, highlights how a trivial dispute can escalate into a deadly confrontation, leaving families devastated and lives ruined.
According to Edafe, the 45-year-old man demanded a contribution of N1,000 from a relative. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which the victim was struck and later died from injuries sustained.
In the video, Edafe warned the public to manage their tempers, particularly during the festive season.
“The year is about to end,” he said. “Be careful, control your temper and avoid spending this last period of the year in jail or even for life.”
“No amount of money is worth losing a life or leaving your family with lifelong grief,” he added.
The Delta State Police confirmed that the case is under investigation and that those responsible will be prosecuted according to the law.
The identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed.
Edafe’s warning forms part of a broader effort to prevent violence during the festive season, when tensions and financial pressures often peak.
