Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a new dress code for civil servants, banning bushy beards, artificial hair, long eyelashes, fake nails, and other appearances considered indecent in the workplace.

The directive, issued through a circular from the Office of the Head of Service and endorsed at the State Executive Council meeting in Asaba, today, is aimed at promoting discipline and professionalism in the state’s public service.

Under the new guidelines, male civil servants are prohibited from keeping bushy beards or wearing certain traditional caps such as ‘Resource Control’ and ‘Papas.”

Female officers are barred from reporting to work with braided or dyed artificial hair, long eyelashes, or acrylic nails.

The circular also sets out specific dress expectations by rank.

Senior officers on Grade Level 13 and above must appear in full corporate suits, while junior officers are required to wear trousers with shirts and ties. Administrative officers are expected to be in suits at all times.

Traditional attire will be allowed only on Fridays and during special occasions, provided it is neat, modest, and accompanied by appropriate headgear, excluding the outlawed caps.

For women, acceptable options include trouser suits, skirt suits, or corporate gowns that fall below the knee and have sleeves.

Revealing clothing such as sleeveless outfits, spaghetti straps, and dresses exposing cleavage are strictly prohibited.

Traditional wears like buba and wrapper or African print gowns are permitted only on Fridays and designated events if they meet standards of decency.

The state government said the policy was designed to enhance the image of the civil service and ensure staff project professionalism in line with public expectations.

  1. I don’t understand where the Delta state governor is driving at ,I don’t think the staff’s will adhere to this at all. I know some of what he mentioned are not good for office wear but some of the things he mentioned are not bad for office.
