A respected Delta State-based cleric, Archbishop Angel Oyeghe, founder of the Faith Healing Ministry in Warri, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, following a viral video showing congregants spraying naira notes on a live cow during a church service.
The EFCC said the incident, which reportedly occurred under her supervision, is being investigated for alleged conspiracy, naira abuse and suspected money laundering.
The act, currently trending on social media, has drawn widespread public shock for its unconventional use of the country’s legal tender in a religious setting.
According to the Commission, the arrest is in line with the provisions of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which prohibits the abuse or mutilation of the naira.
Further arrests are expected as investigators work to identify other individuals involved.
Oyeghe has reportedly provided useful statements to investigators and will be charged to court once ongoing inquiries are concluded.
