A couple, Ugochukwu and Ihuoma Igbokwe, and their child have suffered severe burns when a wildfire gutted their one-room apartment in Umudike Oka Ugiri in Isiala-mbano LGA of Imo State recently.

DAILY POST reports that the husband and wife are deaf and dumb while the son is barely a year old.

It was reported that rescue was late in coming as the victims were unable to alert neighbours due their condition.

The family is said to be in critical condition in a hospital in the area, especially the child who was worst affected by the fire.

The wife is also said to be heavily pregnant, a situation that has further complicated her condition.

A neighbour reportedly said the victims are in serious need of financial help to pay their medical bills.

“They live in a one-room apartment here in Umudike Ugiri. The family is dying slowly.

“They are currently in a hospital and are in dire need of financial help to pay their medical bills,” the neighbour was quoted as saying.
