Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has issued a rare and candid criticism of the state of affairs in Nigeria, declaring that entertainers, including himself, have not done enough to speak out against what he described as growing injustice in the country.

In a post on X on Saturday, the award winning singer expressed frustration over recent developments in Nigeria and suggested that public figures in the entertainment industry had remained largely silent despite mounting national challenges.

“I can’t lie we entertainers .. we Dey fuckup I won’t lie including me … we need to speak up … it’s too much injustice goin on .. our country don go 💔🇳🇬,” Davido wrote.

The statement has quickly generated widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians praising the singer for acknowledging the responsibility of influential public figures to speak on issues affecting ordinary citizens.

Davido’s comments come at a time when public concern has intensified over insecurity, economic hardship, rising living costs, kidnappings and growing political tensions across different parts of the country.

Recent incidents, including reports of violent crimes and public protests over governance issues, have renewed debates about the role celebrities should play in national discourse.

For years, Nigerian entertainers have faced criticism from sections of the public for remaining silent on major national issues despite commanding enormous influence among young people.

While some celebrities have argued that they are entertainers rather than political activists, others have increasingly used their platforms to comment on governance, human rights and social justice matters.

Davido himself has occasionally spoken on political issues, particularly during election periods and in support of democratic participation.

However, his latest remarks appear to be among his most direct acknowledgements that prominent figures within the entertainment industry have not done enough to challenge perceived injustices.

As reactions continue to pour in, Davido’s message has resonated with many Nigerians who see it as a reflection of growing frustration over the country’s direction and a call for more voices, especially those with large platforms, to engage in conversations about the nation’s future.
