Africa’s leading industrialist, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, has announced a ₦600 million donation towards the construction of a female students’ hostel at Lagos State University (LASU), alongside employment opportunities for outstanding graduates of the institution.
Dangote made the commitment as LASU conferred on him an Honorary Doctor of Business (Honoris Causa) in Entrepreneurship, Industrial and Human Capital Development during the university’s convocation ceremonies.
The President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group was represented at the award ceremony by his daughter, Hajia Fatima Aliko-Dangote, who announced the ₦600 million hostel pledge on his behalf.
In another major boost for graduating students, she disclosed that first-class graduates in Engineering and the Sciences from LASU’s 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions would receive preferential consideration for employment with the Dangote Group after completing their mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
The initiative potentially opens a direct pathway into one of Africa’s biggest industrial conglomerates for some of LASU’s brightest young engineers and scientists.
The ₦600 million intervention is expected to support the university’s efforts to expand accommodation for female students and ease pressure on existing hostel facilities.
Dangote’s commitments were among the major highlights of the convocation ceremonies, which celebrated academic excellence and recognised individuals who have distinguished themselves through contributions to entrepreneurship, industry, education and human capital development.
The honorary doctorate bestowed on the billionaire industrialist recognised his impact on entrepreneurship and industrial development, as well as his contribution to building human capacity.
With the twin commitments to student accommodation and graduate employment, Dangote extended the significance of the honorary award beyond the convocation arena to tangible opportunities for LASU students and graduates.

Wow that’s a great news because LASU is the only higher institutions that doesn’t have hostel which is very bad ,the federal poly ilaro I went to has both male and female hostel.
Those who couldn’t get a slot ended up renting apartments for themselves close to the school so that they can meet up with morning lectures. God will continue to bless Dangote immensely.
And his business will continue to grow in Jesus name.
