Dallas, a modern metropolis in northern Texas, has declared October 7 as YorubaFest Day to celebrate a most outstanding African race and culture.
In a declaration signed by the 60th Mayor of Dallas, Texas, Eric L. Johnson, the Yoruba people are recognised as an important and influential ethnic group from Africa.
The Proclamation says, “members of this community have made significant
contributions to the culture of our great city and nation”.
According to the document, the Yoruba Cultural Center Dallas had organized YORUBAFEST to showcase African art, music, and culture in a way that unified the Dallas community as well as integrated African culture into the diverse community in Dallas, Texas.
The Mayor stated, “NOW, THEREFORE, I, ERIC L. JOHNSON, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DALLAS, do hereby proclaim October 7, 2023 as YORUBAFEST DAY.”
Dallas is also a commercial and cultural hub of the Texas region.
The Yoruba people are a West African ethnic group who mainly inhabit parts of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo.
