The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said it has seized 10 cartons of 225 miligrammes of Tramadol valued at N2.8 million while being smuggled out of the Apapa port in an ambulance.
The ambulance, with number plate: LND 605 XW, was reportedly intercepted with the drugs while the occupants, who pretended to be attending to an emergency, wanted to smuggle them out of the port.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the ambulance was registered to Medbury Medical Services, an emergency health service provider.
Controller of the Apapa Command, Muhammad Abba-Kura, told journalists that two suspects, Michael Ajibade and Olatunde Emmanuel, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
Abba-Kura also showed the vehicle and the seized drugs to journalists during a press conference yesterday.
According to the Customs boss, further investigations revealed that the drugs were stolen from a container waiting for examination inside the port.
He estimated the duty paid value of all the drugs to be N59.3 million.
