Royalty, music, awards and nostalgia lit up Isonyin, Ogun State, as Isonyin Grammar School (IGS) brought its 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations to a colourful close, with Akin Bashiru and Prince Adeyinka Sipe emerging winners of the Task Achievers Award.
The two-day anniversary celebration climaxed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with a grand Dinner and Award Night at Rolak Hotel & Suites, where generations of old students, members of the Progressive Set, dignitaries and well-wishers gathered to celebrate five decades of friendship, achievement and enduring ties to their alma mater.
It was an evening steeped in nostalgia as former students reunited, exchanged memories of their school days and celebrated the remarkable journey of an institution that has bound generations together for half a century.
Adding royal colour to the occasion was the Oba of Isonyin, Ijebu, His Royal Highness Oba Abdul Rasheed Omotayo Cossy Salami, Ilufemiloye I, who graced the celebration as Royal Father of the Day.
The monarch’s presence lent added significance to the milestone event as the IGS family celebrated not only the school’s golden anniversary but also men and women whose leadership, sacrifices and commitment have helped sustain the old students’ association over the years.
A major highlight of the night was the presentation of awards to distinguished members for outstanding leadership, enduring service and contributions to the growth, unity and development of the association.
Bashiru and Sipe were among the standout honourees, jointly receiving the Task Achievers Award in recognition of their contributions to the association.
The Legacy Awards went to Situ Idowu Olaitan and Michael Ifabanwo for their roles in preserving and advancing the association’s heritage.
Former presidents were also celebrated with Presidential Awards for providing leadership at various stages of the association’s development.
The recipients were Muyiwa Oyewole, who served from 1999 to 2002; Tayo Sanni, 2002–2008; Yomi Amoye, 2003–2004; Adeshina Olusegun, 2005–2006; Folusho Abiodun, 2010–2013; Lanre Rufai, 2014–2017; Adediran Ogundero, 2018–2021; and Siji Odulana, 2020–2025.
Adetola Babatunde, Ademola Sokoya, Ismaila Lawal and Bimbo Odukoya received the Enduring Service Award, recognising their sustained commitment to the association.
Engineer Abdul-Ganiyu Situ and Manque Obafemi Obikoya were honoured with the Diaspora Award, while the association’s President, Gbenga Okusanya, received the Leadership Award.
Organisers said the honours were a fitting tribute to members whose dedication and sacrifices have helped preserve the unity, progress and legacy of the Isonyin Grammar School family.
Beyond the awards, the evening unfolded as a celebration of shared history, with music, dancing, laughter and emotional reunions filling the venue as old friends rekindled bonds formed decades earlier.
The Golden Jubilee Dinner and Award Night eventually drew the curtain on two days of festivities, leaving members with fresh memories of a landmark celebration marking 50 years of education, friendship, service and legacy at Isonyin Grammar School.
