The Ogun State Police Command has announced a reduction in crime across the state in the first quarter of 2025, attributing the success to enhanced community engagement, government support, and increased operational efficiency.

In a quarterly report released on March 28, the Command highlighted key security achievements between January and March 2025.

These include the arrest of 42 armed robbery suspects, recovery of 40 firearms and 177 rounds of ammunition, and the successful prosecution of over 1,500 suspects. The report also noted a drastic reduction in kidnapping incidents, with five suspected kidnappers apprehended.

The Command, under the leadership of CP Lanre Ogunlowo, intensified community engagement initiatives to bridge communication gaps with residents. These efforts provided valuable insights into security concerns, leading to more effective policing strategies. The deployment of additional operational assets from the Force Headquarters, improved police visibility on highways, and collaboration with other security agencies contributed to the positive outcomes.

According to the report, the number of suspects arrested for various offences in Q1 2025 stood at 2,141, with 1,345 cases charged to court. The prosecution of criminal cases remained steady, resulting in 62 convictions over the period. The Command also recovered 26 stolen vehicles, many of which were stolen from other states and intercepted due to heightened patrol vigilance.

The report also shed light on an increase in cult-related activities, with 65 suspects arrested, largely due to proactive measures by the anti-cultism unit. However, the number of rape suspects arrested showed a downward trend, with 43 individuals apprehended during the period.

To strengthen security along key routes, the Command established a security shed along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode highway and positioned motorized patrol teams on both sides of the long bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Additionally, armoured personnel carriers (APCs) were deployed to strategic locations, including Sagamu interchange, Ilaro, Ijebu Ode, and Abeokuta metropolis.

The Command acknowledged the unwavering support of the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, as well as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The cooperation of the judiciary, the business community, and the general public was also credited for the relative peace and improved security within the state.

Reiterating its commitment to public safety, the Command urged commercial motorcyclists to avoid late-night operations due to increasing attacks. Parents were also advised to monitor the activities of secondary school students to curb youth involvement in crime.
