Two hundred motorcycles have been deployed for traffic control in Lagos to support efforts of the state commissioner of police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu in ensuring sanity on the roads, as 22 offenders were arraigned in court.
NewsmakersNG learnt today that the traffic offenders were arraigned in a mobile court and their vehicles confiscated for driving against traffic.
A statement issued by the state police spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, reads in part: “Lagos State Police Command in collaboration with Lagos State Judiciary, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice commenced prosecution of traffic laws violators in Mobile Court. A total of 22 Offenders were apprehended on Friday 13th December 2019 in different parts of Lagos, mostly for driving against traffic and seven vehicles were confiscated. The Offenders were immediately arraigned before Mobile Court. The enforcement of traffic laws will be sustained all through the festive periods and beyond. The Enforcement team is guided by the mantra ‘Traffic must flow’.”
Upon assumption of office, Odumosu had declared a state of emergency in traffic and deployed additional 1000 Police Officers for traffic control. According to Elkana, the 200 motorcycles deployed by the CP for traffic control and patrols, would also be used to combat traffic-related crimes such as traffic robbery.
