Residents of Ikorodu may soon witness a major security turnaround as the Lagos State Police Command has unveiled a new tactical intervention outfit, christened the “Command Sweepers Squad,” to confront rising criminal activities across the axis.
The initiative, introduced by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, follows growing complaints from residents over increasing incidents of robbery, cult violence and other criminal activities in parts of Ikorodu and adjoining communities.
The police described the special tactical squad as a temporary but aggressive intervention security outfit designed to restore order, flush out criminal gangs and rebuild public confidence in the affected areas.

According to the Command, the newly inaugurated squad comprises operatives drawn from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF and 63 PMF, working alongside other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The security outfit has been strategically stationed in Ijede, a location considered central for rapid deployment to crime-prone communities within Ikorodu and neighbouring areas.
In a significant boost to the operation, the squad has also been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the Lagos State Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

Police authorities disclosed that operatives have already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts where they are expected to carry out intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations, surveillance patrols and confidence-building exercises aimed at dismantling criminal networks.
The Command stressed that the operation would be conducted professionally and in line with global policing standards and the rule of law.
“The safety of lives and property remains our priority,” the police stated, while urging residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely intelligence.

Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870 and 09168630929.
The inauguration of the “Command Sweepers Squad” is seen as the latest move by CP Fatai to intensify security operations across Lagos amid renewed concerns over violent crimes in some suburban communities.
