CP Edgal Arrests Gambling Policemen in Lagos

“You never count your money, when you’re still at the table. There’ll be time enough for counting, when the dealin’s done.”

Country music icon, Kenny Rogers, gave that advice to gamblers in his evergreen Grammy award-winning song titled The Gambler.

But three gambling policemen in Lagos got into trouble today for not heeding Kenny Rogers advice.

The Lagos State commissioner of police (CP), Mr Imohimi Edgal, ordered the arrest of the officers when report got to him that they were counting their winnings openly after gambling when they were on duty near Zenith Bank at Opebi area of Ikeja.

Lagos police spokesman, SP Chike Oti told NewsmakersNG in a statement today how the whistle was blown on the erring policemen.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the rounds on a social media platform called Instablog9ja that “Policemen stationed near Zenith Bank, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos, seen counting bribes received and smoking”.

“Based on the allegation, the CP Lagos ordered for their arrest, detention and trial. Meanwhile, preliminary investigation into the case revealed that the men weren’t counting bribes received as alleged but coupons they collected from a game of gambling they played a.k.a Baba Ijebu.

“The men are currently facing disciplinary action that could lead to reduction in rank or dismissal. It is wrong to engage in such distracting activity while on duty.

“CP Lagos encourages members of the public to always expose, albeit accurately, undisciplined and unprofessional policemen.”
