The Lagos State ministry of Education has said that schools remain closed indefinitely.
The ministry made the clarification today following the announcement of resumption dates by some states.
Lagos State too had earlier fixed resumption of the second term for January 4.
But, following the spike in cases of COVID-19, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered closure of all schools in the state indefinitely.
Head, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mr Kayode Abayomi, confirmed that schools in the state are no longer reopening on January 4, 2021, as earlier announced.
According to the ministry, the 4th of January earlier announced as resumption date for the second term of 2020/2021 academic session has since been overtaken by the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
Abayomi said, “Please, recall that the Ministry of Education earlier announced 4th of January as resumption date for the second term 2020/2021 academic session, but this has since been overtaken by the turn of events due to the recent waves of Covid-19 pandemic.
“As a result of the spike in coronavirus pandemic, Mr. Governor announced the indefinite closure of all schools. To this end, kindly be informed that a new date of resumption will be announced as soon as possible.”
