The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says it has commenced fumigation of the country’s three main international airports ahead of their reopening by the federal government.

FAAN disclosed this via its Twitter handle today.

The affected airports include, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja and Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced the closure of the Lagos and Abuja airports for one month on March 23 after the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country rose from 12 to 22.

The government had earlier shut the Port Harcourt airport, alongside the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano and Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

It announced the extension of the closure by an initial two weeks on April 21 and later by an additional four weeks on May 6.
