Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have reportedly gone into isolation over fears of exposure to COVID-19.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the two governors took the precautionary step after learning that persons close them have tested positive for the deadly virus.

Lagos State information commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso, yesterday, tweeted a statement by his health ministry counterpart, Prof. Akin Abayomi, which indicated that Sanwo-Olu and his close aides will undergo COVID-19 test today.

“Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will go into self- isolation immediately after one of his close aides tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday (10th of December).

“Mr Governor and other members of his team will be tested by the Lagos State biobank today but will remain in isolation until the results of the test are available.

This is not the first time Mr Governor is having the COVID-19 test. He has had at least three since May when he announced that 10 of his aides had tested positive for the virus,” the statement reads.

El-Rufai said in a broadcast late yesterday that the measure became necessary after members and senior government officials around him tested positive for COVID-19.

He added that he is in self-isolation as a precaution pending a COVID-19 test to be conducted today.

El-Rufai had earlier tested positive for the virus in March but recovered after some weeks.
