There were concerns about the health of the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, this evening following rumours that he might have died.
The former governor’s death has been trending on social media and was also reported by a number of websites.
However, Ajimobi’s spokesman, Bolaji Tunji, said this evening that his principal “is alive”.
In a social media post, Tunji, who also served as Ajimobi’s special adviser on communication and strategy during his second term in office, asked for prayers for his boss.
“Kindly disregard all the rumours, just rumours. In all, we remain prayerful,” he posted on Facebook.
Ajimobi has reportedly been in a critical condition at a hospital in Lagos for over a week where he is receiving treatment for COVID-19.
The former governor was named the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday.
