A teenager who murdered his 62-year-old father, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the United States, has been held without bond as a District Court judge ordered for his mental evaluation.
Seventeen-year-old Barba Abraham Koroma was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his Sierra Leonian father, Dr Barba Maulana Koroma, on July 26.
The slain pastor was a Technical Information Specialist at National Institutes of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services.
According to a spokeswoman for the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, the teenager would remain held without bond following a hearing in Upper Marlboro.
Denise Roberts added that a preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 29.
Public Defender Keith Lotridge, who is representing Koroma, declined to comment.
Bowie police officers were called to Allen Pond Park in Bowie at 4:30 p.m. Friday, for a report of a domestic incident where a silver Infiniti had crashed.
Officers wrote in charging documents that they saw Koroma leaving the woods. When police went into the woods, they said they found Koroma’s father, Barba Maulana Koroma, stabbed more than once in the upper body.
Police said that Barba Abraham Koroma admitted to stabbing his father and dragging his body into the woods. He has been charged with first-and-second degree murder and first-degree assault.
The late Koroma was also identified as a Sierra Leonian politician of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party.
