A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned till July 10, 2026, the trial of Lagos businessman, God’spower Phillip Odiete, who is facing charges over the alleged importation of 13.5 kilogrammes of cannabis through the Tincan Island Port area of the state.
Odiete is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a two-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy and unlawful importation of cannabis indica.
At the resumed hearing, NDLEA prosecuting counsel, Barrister F.S. Ajagu, informed the court after leading the second prosecution witness in evidence that the prosecution still intended to call four additional witnesses before closing its case.
Defence counsel, Chief Dennis Warri, did not object to the application.
Following the submissions, the presiding judge, Justice Daniel Osiagor, adjourned the matter to July 10, 2026, for continuation of trial.
According to the charge filed before the court by NDLEA senior prosecuting counsel, Barrister Adekumle Adebajo, the defendant allegedly conspired with two other suspects identified as Victor Addah and Ejimnkoye Livinus, who are reportedly at large, to import the illicit substance into Nigeria.
The prosecution alleged that the offence was committed on or about May 17, 2024, at Tincan Island Port, Lagos.
In the first count, the NDLEA accused Odiete and the two fleeing suspects of conspiring to import 13.5 kilogrammes of cannabis indica, said to be a narcotic drug similar to cocaine, heroin, and LSD, contrary to Section 14(b) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The second count alleged that Odiete unlawfully imported the 13.5 kilogrammes of cannabis indica without lawful authority, an offence punishable under Section 11(a) of the same Act.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
