The Ogun State High Court has adjourned until February 16, 2026, a land dispute case involving Zhi Yuan Global Nigeria Limited and residents of Owu Adepiti Village, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The matter, which is being heard under the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024, came up for further mention before Justice A. O. Asenuga, during which both parties informed the court of the processes they had filed.
The claimants are Rev. Reuben Adekunle and seven others, while the defendants include Zhi Yuan Global Nigeria Limited and nine others. Prof. Justus Shokefun appeared for the claimants, while M. E. Kolapo represented the defendants.
Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, Prof. Shokefun explained that the matter was still at the stage of settling pleadings. He disclosed that the claimants had filed an application seeking an extension of time to respond to the defendants’ statement of defence.
According to him, the claimants also filed an application for the substitution of a party who died during the pendency of the suit, adding that both applications were successfully moved before the court.
Shokefun further revealed that the first to third defendants had filed an application for extension of time to respond to the statement of claim. He added that the defence also filed an application seeking the withdrawal of a party’s name from the suit, an application the claimants intend to oppose.
The lead counsel stated that the claimants are asking the court to declare the disputed land as ancestral property inherited from their forebears, noting that the land was historically named after one of their ancestors.
Efforts to obtain comments from the defence counsel proved unsuccessful, as she declined to speak on the matter, stating she was not interested in commenting.
After listening to submissions from both counsels in the suit marked AB/235/2025, Justice Asenuga adjourned the case to February 16, 2026, for further mention.
