The police in Ogun have held a couple for murder following the death of a kinsman they fought three months ago.

According to a statement from Ogun State police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the victim identified as 45-year-old Mark Kalu is suspected to have died from injuries sustained in a fight with a couple, Moses Mba, 50, and his 40-year-old wife, Florence Moses at Osiele market in Abeokuta.

Kalu died on January 6, 2024, at about 7am.

Odutola stated that the Divisional Police Officer in Odeda, in Abeokuta, launched an investigation after receiving a report that Kalu died as a result of injuries sustained during a fight on October 8, 2023, at Osiele market.

Odutola added, “The altercation took place in the market square between the late Mark Kalu and a couple, Moses Mba, 50, and his 40-year-old wife, Florence Moses, leading to the death of Kalu.

“Efforts were made by the Babaloja of Osiele and the Igbo Community Leader to mediate and find a peaceful resolution. However, the suspects have now been taken into custody to facilitate a preliminary investigation into the incident. The body of the deceased have been deposited at the Federal Medical Center in Idi Aba for autopsy.”
