Security sources have reportedly confirmed that soldiers carried out a raid on the Abuja residence of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.
The operation, according to SaharaReporters, took place in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory.
SaharaReporters quoted multiple security insiders as saying that the raid was linked to an ongoing investigation by the Defence Intelligence Agency into an alleged coup plot.
One of Sylva’s relatives, identified as Paga, was said to have been taken into custody during the operation.
Details of the alleged raid remain sketchy, and there has been no official statement from the military authorities or from Sylva himself.
The news medium also indicated that the operation might have extended to another property belonging to the former Bayelsa governor.
The report comes amid continuing inquiries into the detention of several senior military officers by the Defence Intelligence Agency over a suspected coup plot.
The agency has yet to issue a public clarification regarding the scope or nature of its investigation.
Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State, served as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources between 2019 and 2023 and was the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the November 2023 Bayelsa election.
