The road to global football glory begins today as the 2026 FIFA World Cup bursts into life with an exciting lineup of first-round matches that promise drama, passion and unforgettable moments.
According to the official fixture guide, football fans around the world will be treated to a feast of international football over an 18-day opening round featuring traditional powerhouses, emerging nations and intriguing underdog battles.
The tournament gets underway on Thursday, June 11, with Mexico facing South Africa in the opening match, setting the stage for what is expected to be one of the most competitive World Cups in recent history.
The following day, South Korea take on the Czech Republic, while Canada square off against Bosnia in another highly anticipated encounter.
Former world champions Brazil begin their campaign against Morocco on June 13, while the United States tackle Paraguay. The same day also sees Qatar face Switzerland in what promises to be a fiercely contested fixture.

England’s showdown with Ghana on June 23 and France’s meeting with Iraq on June 22 are among the fixtures expected to draw massive global audiences.
The opening round concludes on June 28 with a series of decisive matches, including Algeria versus Austria, Jordan against Argentina, Colombia taking on Portugal, and DR Congo facing Uzbekistan.
With 48 nations chasing football’s most coveted trophy, fans are already counting down to a tournament expected to deliver spectacular goals, emotional moments and fierce rivalries.
Organisers have yet to confirm the schedules for the Round of 32, Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, but anticipation is already building as the world prepares for another unforgettable FIFA World Cup spectacle.
