Flag carrier, South African Airways today began shutting down its operations in Nigeria in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the airline has also cancelled all its scheduled flights from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
It was gathered that some passengers who were billed to travel with the airline from Abuja to South Africa this morning were turned back at the airport by the airline’s staff who told them the flight had been cancelled.
NewsmakersNG could not be confirm if the airline has adopted the same measure in Lagos and how long the shutdown would last.
Checks by NewsmakersNG revealed that a South African Airways flight, SAA 060, is being expected at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, today.
The airline is yet to issue an official statement on the development.
