A policeman, on Sunday, shot dead a guest at a naming ceremony in Warri, Delta State.
The policeman, who was allegedly drunk, also injured another guest in the arm.
The culprit, identified as Inspector Samuel Imana, had accompanied some guests to the ceremony, at 15 Ejewor Street, Polokor market area.
Eyewitnesses said the policeman suddenly started firing into the air to salute the guests he had escorted to party as they were spraying the celebrator with money on the dance floor.
In the process, the victims were allegedly hit by stray bullets from the culprit’s rifle.
The dead victim was identified only as Mike, while the injured was identified as Onome Eko.
Both victims were first taken to a nearby hospital from where they were moved to another hospital, where the deceased gave up the ghost about three hours after the incident.
It was learned that the injured victim is still on admission but in a stable condition.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, told newsmen the policeman would first be subjected to the relevant internal disciplinary procedure of the police before being charged to court for the crime.
