A dream trip to Asaba to learn the ropes of content creation has ended in tragedy, with a 20-year-old woman dead and the popular social media personality who allegedly invited her now in police custody.
The Delta State Police Command has arrested 40-year-old content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations that he raped and physically assaulted the young woman before her death.
The arrest followed a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, at Ogbonna’s invitation after he reportedly offered to train her in content creation.
According to the police, the suspect had promoted the training programme through his social media platform. But what was supposed to be a journey towards building a career allegedly became a nightmare.
Upon her arrival in Asaba, police said Ogbonna allegedly took the 20-year-old woman to a hotel, where she was reportedly raped and subjected to physical violence.
She later returned home visibly distressed and disclosed the alleged incident to her parents.
In a development that could become crucial to the investigation, the young woman reportedly made a video recording before her death, recounting her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the alleged assault.
Tragedy subsequently struck when she reportedly ingested a toxic substance. She later died despite efforts to save her life.
Following a petition to the Delta State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, ordered the Area Command, Effurun, to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the allegations.
Acting on the directive, police operatives commenced investigations that led to the arrest of Ogbonna.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the police, the suspect made “useful statements” during preliminary interrogation, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Oyeniyi assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked.
The police commissioner also pledged that the investigation would be conducted professionally and that appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.
The allegations against Ogbonna have not been proven in court, and police investigation into the case is ongoing.
