Containers Crush Five Commuters in Lagos

Five commuters were killed today when two containers fell on a passenger bus at Ojota, in Lagos.

The 40-feet containers crushed the 18–seater bus like an egg shell killing five passengers, while three others were injured.

According to a statement, from the Rapid Response Squad, the accident occurred at about 3am. Both vehicles were facing the Maryland end of Ojota at the time.

Newsmakersng learnt that three trapped survivors were rushed to the Lagos State General Hospital, Ikeja, while the bodies of those who died were deposited at the mortuary.

The rescue and evacuation team included RRS and Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) officials.

The Mack truck conveying two containers marked AKD 663 XF and the 18-seater passenger bus marked FST 944 XR have been taken to LASEMA yard, Oshodi.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, visited the scene. He urged truck owners and drivers to always fasten containers to trucks to forestall a repeat of such accident.

Also at the scene were the RRS Commander, ACP Olatunji Disu and the General Manager LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu.
