Constitutional Reform is Not a Partisan Affair – Prof. Kila …Patriots Announce Zonal Executives

Segun Atanda/

The National Chairman of the Patriots’ Strategy and Advocacy Committee on Constitutional Reform of Nigeria, Prof. Anthony Kila, has urged Nigerians and committee members to see constitutional reforms not as a partisan issue but as a national and institutional-building effort.

The renowned political economist and public affairs analyst made this statement during the inauguration of the newly nominated executives for the zonal committees of the Patriots’ Strategy and Advocacy Committee on Constitutional Reform of Nigeria.

The Emeka Anyaoku-led group of prominent Nigerians, widely known as The Patriots, launched Zonal Advocacy Committees across the country’s six geopolitical zones in October. These committees aim to drive the realization of a new People’s Constitution by engaging and mobilizing key stakeholders across the zones.

The Zonal Chairmen and Secretaries will coordinate the committees’ activities within their respective regions. In a statement released on Tuesday, co-signed by Prof. Kila and the National Secretary of the Committee, Dr. Bilikisu Magoro, the Patriots announced the appointments of the following Zonal Executive Committee members:

North Central: Dr. Mike Omeri (Chairman), Hajiya Amina Saleh Jambo (Secretary)

North East: Prof. Maxwell Gidado (Chairman), Alh. Yakubu Musa Damagun (Secretary)

North West: Prof. Ibrahim Garba (Chairman), Hon. Charity Stephen Shekari (Secretary)

South East: Mr. Joe Atuyi (Chairman), Chief Ify Ezenwa (Secretary)

South South: Deacon Chris Iyovwaye (Chairman), Obonganwan Barbara James (Secretary)

South West: Chief Gboyega Adejumo (Chairman), Dr. Yinka Olarinmoye (Secretary)

In August, The Patriots visited President Bola Tinubu to advocate for a legitimate, democratic constitution that would create a Nigeria that works for all its citizens. The group is also planning discussions with leaders of the National Assembly to seek legislative support for a people-driven democratic constitution, aiming to rally Senators and House Representatives nationwide.
