‘Confidential’ Package Containing Live Ammunition Delivered to First Bank MD’s Home

A mysterious parcel marked “Confidential” and containing two rounds of live ammunition was delivered to the Ikoyi residence of First Bank Managing Director, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, prompting a police investigation into the identity and motive of the sender.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that detectives are probing the circumstances surrounding the unusual delivery, which was reportedly received by a security guard before being handed to the banking executive.

According to police, the package bore only Alebiosu’s name and address and contained no information identifying the sender, deepening the mystery surrounding the incident.

The case came to public attention on Tuesday when the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, disclosed details during a briefing at the command headquarters.

Fatai said the matter was formally reported to the police on May 7 after the First Bank chief discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside the parcel.

“The Managing Director reported the matter to the police after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel collected on his behalf,” the police commissioner told journalists.

According to reports, the parcel was delivered to Alebiosu’s residence in the highbrow Ikoyi area of Lagos by a dispatch rider.

Police said the package was marked “Confidential” and carried only the recipient’s details, with no indication of who sent it.

What has heightened interest in the case is the absence of any publicly known explanation for the delivery.

Investigators have not established whether the ammunition was intended as a threat, a warning, a prank or was sent for some other purpose.

“The case is still under investigation, and we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves,” Fatai said.

The police commissioner disclosed that detectives are pursuing multiple leads and examining information supplied by the complainant as part of efforts to uncover the source of the parcel.

He said no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

“We are following several leads. Detectives are examining all relevant information available to us,” Fatai said.

According to him, investigators are deploying forensic and intelligence-led methods to trace the origin of the package and identify anyone connected to its delivery.

Authorities have stopped short of describing the parcel as a direct threat.

Alebiosu heads First Bank, one of Nigeria’s oldest and largest financial institutions, making the incident one of the more unusual security cases currently under investigation by the Lagos State Police Command.

More than six weeks after the parcel was reported, investigators have yet to identify the sender or establish a motive.
