Community Policing: Quest for a Safer Nation

A concise interpretation of Community Policing was offered on Thursday, by the Area ‘A’ Commander, ACP Bode Ojajuni, who presented the welcome address at the inauguration of advisory committees and divisional community policing committee held at the Police Officers Central Mess, Onikan, in Lagos.

Here’s an excerpt of the address:  

PROTOCOL

It is a rare privilege afforded me, by my Commissioner of Police CP Olusegun Hakeem Odumosu psc fcia to welcome you all to this great occasion of the inauguration of the Area Command, Local Government Community Policing Advisory Committees and the Divisional Community Policing Committee categories.

In pursuant of the Federal Government policy of involving the general populace to work in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in the onerous task of policing the nation for a giant stride and safe environment, the Inspector General of Police has placed this avowed policy in the front burner of his administration.

Community policing concept is simply a philosophy of partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the general public which we can describe as the stakeholders to work together to secure our communities and by extension a safer country.

The three committees to be inaugurated today namely Area Command Community Policing Advisory Committee, Local Government Community Policing Advisory Committee, and Divisional Community Policing Committee, are the composition of men and women of proven integrity, patriotic compatriots and God-fearing personalities who believe in the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria project which engendered their resolve to serve in these Committees to the benefit of mankind and a secured nation.

The functions and responsibilities of each committee have been spelt out in the community policing blueprint and members shall be availed of it as they set to work.

At this juncture, may I have the honour and privilege to humbly and respectfully call on our amiable Commissioner of Police to kindly present these noble men and women who have offered to render selfless and voluntary service to their fatherland to our accomplished father, the Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG AHMED lLIYASU psc (+), who counted us worthy to be honoured with his presence for the inauguration, please.
