The prayer session, held at the conference hall of the Lagos NUJ secretariat, that is being re-modeled, had Christian and Islamic clerics in attendance.

While Alhaji Abdullahi Saliu led other Muslim clerics in the Islamic prayers, Pastor Banji Oluwalana led the Pastor’s in the marathon prayer session.

In his sermon, Oluwalana likened Akinreti to the biblical Daniel who declined to feast on the king’s sweet meal.

Oluwalana described the NUJ chairman as a honest, transparent, trustworthy and result oriented leader, with passion for the progress of the Council and the Union at large.

Based on the achievement of the Akinreti-led administration in the three years on the saddle, Alhaji Saliu recommended Akinreti for another tenure in order to take the Lagos Council to lofty heights.

The Islamic cleric, who also commented on Akinreti’s welfare package for members and veteran journalists, said it was unprecedented.

Monday’s event was followed by a press conference today at the same venue, where he reeled out his achievements and unveiled his manifesto.
