The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has dismissed allegations in a viral video claiming its fuel burns quickly and lacks durability.
In a statement signed by Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC described the claims as “false and misleading,” attributing them to unverified and amateur research lacking credibility.
NNPC emphasised that its fuel is produced with high-quality compositions for efficiency and sustainability.
It also noted that a significant portion of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold in Lagos, where the video reportedly originated, is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which adheres to strict industry standards.
“This misleading video is another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to tarnish our reputation,” the statement read. “We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation intended to mislead Nigerians and undermine our operations.”
NNPC warned of legal action against those spreading falsehoods and urged Nigerians to rely on verified sources for accurate information.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality fuel and maintaining global industry standards.
The viral video has sparked debates online about the quality of locally refined petroleum products.
