Leading Pan-African financial and investment firm, CITITRUST Holdings Plc, has donated N1.65m to Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), to assist 80 women and children with non-chronic diseases.
The Executive Director of HEI, Mr Paschal Achunine, in a statement on Monday said that ailments including malaria, typhoid fever, meningitis, sepsis, tetanus, malnutrition, diarrhea, jaundice, one off blood transfusion would also be looked into.
Chronic diseases include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and arthritis
Achunine said that it was no longer news that Nigeria is home to the highest number of poor people in the world.
“This implies that many of its citizens are unable to access basic healthcare with attendant fatalities.
“As a matter of fact, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), out of 627,000 people who died of Malaria in 2020, 27 per cent were Nigerians. Worse still, most of those affected are women and children.
“HEI is a credible NGO that has assisted and brought succor to more than 1,100 indigent and vulnerable patients and accident victims across Lagos and beyond.
“It is also a recipient of Best Supporting NGO Award from Lagos State Health Service Commission.
“The duration for this project is three months with target to reach 80 beneficiaries across at least 10 public hospitals in Lagos,” he said.
Achunine said that as a responsible Corporate Citizen, CITITRUST Holdings Plc was keen to touch the lives of Nigerians and connecting with their pain points through this humanitarian initiative.
He thanked the management of CITITRUST Holdings Plc for their unrelenting support for the social well-being of Nigerians.
According to the Group Chief Human Resources, Tiyeyosi Femi-Raji, recent reports says that one out of five children born in Nigeria do not see their fifth birthday.
Femi-Raji said that this was alarming and potentially constituted existential threat to oncoming generations.
She stressed that urgent and broad-based action was needed by all to address this malady.
She encouraged other corporate organisations and public-spirited Nigerians to partake on this sojourn for a formidable health institutions.
