The Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, has ordered an immediate halt to all church activities in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, citing rising attacks on places of worship.
The decision, made in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), comes in the wake of repeated assaults on churches and the recent discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition by security forces.
Rev. Kayode Osatuyi, CAN Coordinator in Kabba/Bunu, confirmed that traditional rulers and church leaders reached the decision during a meeting at the monarch’s palace.
“Following the Obaro’s directive, all churches are to suspend services until further notice,” he said.
The suspension follows “credible reports of bandit attacks targeting our churches,” Rev. Osatuyi added, urging worshippers to prioritise safety and continue praying for peace.
He promised that congregations would be informed once it is safe to resume services.
The Kogi State Government recently warned worship centres in crime-prone areas to exercise caution after uncovering a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from criminal hideouts.
The warning follows violent incidents, including an attack on the Evangelical Church Winning All in Kiri, where two worshippers were killed and about 20 abducted.
