A scene of chaos erupted at the Edo State High Court in Benin today, as thugs stormed the premises to disrupt a pre-hearing session over the disputed September 21 governorship election.

The election, which declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner, is being contested by seven opposition parties at the tribunal.

Supporters of the challengers, gathered at the court for the proceedings, found themselves under attack as unidentified assailants pelted them with objects, forcing many to flee.

In response, security operatives swiftly blocked the court entrance and set up roadblocks along adjoining routes to contain the unrest.

The attack temporarily derailed the session, leaving attendees shaken and raising concerns over the security of the tribunal process.

Further details on the situation are awaited as tensions remain high in the area.
