The Ohinoyi An’ebira of Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Amodu, has passed away at the age of 100.
The revered traditional ruler and cultural icon died on Saturday, January 11, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of peace, integrity, and cultural preservation.
Born into the family of Pa Amodu Omonori in Ihima, Ebira land, Kogi State, Alhaji Abdulrahman rose to prominence as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated traditional music legends. In the 1960s, he gained widespread popularity in the Agege area of Lagos State for his distinctive style, performing in the Ebira language. He retired from music in 1978 after an illustrious career.
In 2004, he was crowned the Ohinoyi An’ebira, becoming a unifying figure and custodian of Ebira traditions in Alimosho.
Known for his honesty and commitment to cultural values, Alhaji Abdulrahman made significant contributions to the history and identity of the Ebira people, earning him widespread respect and admiration.
His death marks the end of an era for the Ebira community in Lagos and beyond. According to the family, funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
