The police in Ogun State have arrested a 38-year-old man, Joseph Kehinde, and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm along the busy Sagamu, Ogijo Road axis.

The arrest, carried out by officers of the Command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS), followed a routine stop-and-search operation at the Lafarge area on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m.

Police sources disclosed that the teenage suspect was intercepted while riding in a commercial tricycle. A search conducted on him reportedly led to the discovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a face mask, items he could not convincingly account for.

Under questioning, the minor allegedly claimed that the firearm belonged to his father, prompting a swift follow-up operation by the QRS team. The father, Joseph Kehinde, was subsequently tracked down and arrested.

Both suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation, while the recovered weapon and other exhibits have been secured as evidence.

The items allegedly recovered from the suspects.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the firearm and the circumstances surrounding its possession. The police added that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

Commending the vigilance of his men, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal arms possession and related criminal activities.

He assured residents of sustained security operations across the state and urged members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information.

The Command also reiterated its emergency contact channels for reporting suspicious activities, including the toll-free Gateway Shield line: 0800 000 9111, alongside other dedicated response numbers.
